The early hours of Thursday were charaterised by crowded residents of Effia, a suburb of Takoradi in the Western Region, as fear gripped the community after an armed robber weilding a gun and a matchet was lynched.

An eyewitness (name witheld), who was at the scene, disclosed to Omanbapa morning show on Connect FM that the incident occurred at dawn.

He said the suspected armed robber, believed to hail from a Francophone country, struggled with the residents as he tried all he can to free himself from the aggressive mob but to no avail.

The eye witness, in an interaction with anchor of the programme Paa Kwesi Simpson, explained that the suspected armed robber was caught around 4:00am at Effia-Adzekye.

He was seen to be a foreigner because he started speaking French when he was caught but nobody could interpret for him, the eyewitness said.

But the mob pounced on him and beat him to pulp until he gave up the ghost.

Prince Nyarko, the Assemblyman for Effia Electoral Area, confirmed the incident and said it happened near a filling station at Adzekye.

He went further to say that he got a distress call Thursday dawn from Chief Inspector Ahenful about the incident, and he made follow-up to confirm the occurrence of the incident.

“I suspect he might have been dragged from a different area to this current location,” he added.

No one has been able to identify him.

The assemblyman also concluded that the area is noted for armed robbery and snatching of phones and other items at gun point.

So far police has begun investigation into the matter.
