President pays tribute to Sir John

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has expressed his deep sadness over the death of the former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as Sir John. According to the President, in a Facebook post, the late Sir John was a passionate devotee of the Danquah Dombo-Busia political tradition, outstanding stalwart of the NPP, strong defender of human rights as a lawyer, proud, faithful adherent to the Christian Adventist Faith. He described him as energetic, ebullient, jovial with an exceptional sense of humour. “He was truly unforgettable and our party and government owe him an immense debt for his work and commitment,” the president stated. Until the death of Sir John, he was the CEO of the Forestry Commission. He died in Accra on Wednesday evening after a short illness and after testing positive for Covid-19. He succumbed to complications of the disease while undergoing treatment at the ICU of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. President Akufo-Addo and his wife, Rebecca, extended their condolences to the family of the deceased. “May the Good Lord bless him, and give him a peaceful place of abode in His bosom until the last day of the Resurrection when we shall all meet again.
