Many NPP aspirants will get zero – Ben Ephson

Renowned pollster Ben Ephson says some of the aspirants in the upcoming national executive elections of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are not in the contest to win.

He maintains that some are in the contest to shore up their CVs for future positions.

He said this is not only peculiar to the ruling party but also to other political parties as the main target is always for the flagbearer elections.

Speaking in an interview on 3FM‘s Hot Edition on Thursday, June 16, the Managing Editor of the Daily Dispatch newspaper said he will not be surprised many of the candidates will record no votes during the elections.

Predicting results of some of the contests, the veteran journalist told host Martin Asiedu-Dartey that the chairmanship race is a two-horse race between perennial contender Stephen Ntim and former Education Minister Professor Christopher Ameyaw Akumfi though he conceded that former Information Minister Stephen Asamoah Boateng may pull a surprise.

For the General Secretary position, Mr Ephson fingered incumbent John Boadu as the top favourite.

He, however, did not rule out Western Region Secretary Charles Bissue and former Youth Employment Agency (YEA) CHief Executive Officer Justin Kodua Frimpong.

Filing of nominations for interested aspirants closed on Thursday with vetting slated to begin Friday, June 17.

The 2022 National Delegates’ conference to elect the national officers is scheduled for the Accra Sports Stadium for Friday, July 15 to Sunday, July 17.
