Stanbic Bank Ghana, lead sponsors of the annual National Farmer’s Day Celebrations, have officially handed over a brand-new Nissan Navara pick-up truck to Rev. Samuel Sabi, the second runner-up of the 2021 National Best Farmer Awards.
Rev. Samuel Sabi, who is a Reverend Minister of the Assemblies of God Church in the Asutifi North District of the Ahafo Region, said farming has become a part of his ministry and it has helped him greatly as a person.
“I add farming to my ministry and it has helped a lot. Through farming, I am able to help members of my church, the community and some persons with disabilities in my community. It has also motivated the youth especially to enter into farming. I have never regretted venturing intofarming and I encourage everyone especially the youth to take to farming,” Rev. Sabi said.
Rev. Sabi further thanked Stanbic Bank for the vehicle and prayed for the bank to keep growing as they continue to help farmers.
He said: “I am grateful to Stanbic Bank for this gift and I pray that they become thebiggest bank in the world because they have decided to help farmers and agriculture. I am going to work with the bank more even as I work on expanding my farm.”
The Acting Head of Agric at Stanbic Bank, Benedict Obeng, who handed over the keys to Rev. Sabi, said driving Ghana’s growth, for the bank, means supporting the agriculture sector because of its contribution to the country’s economy.
Mr. Obeng noted that, “For us as a bank, we have been associated with this for the past 14 years because we consider this not only as a corporate social responsibility but also as a motivation and encouragement to our farmers and fisherfolks. We say Africa is our home and we drive her growth, so to be able to drive the growth of Ghana we have to support agric because it contributes to a huge chunk of Ghana’s GDP. So, for any activity within the agriculture value chain, we want to associate ourselves with it and drive growth in that aspect.”
This year’s National Farmer’s Day Celebrations, which was the 37th edition, was held at the Adisadel College Park, Cape Coast in the Central Region on Friday, December 3.
In all, a total of 165 farmers and fishermen were awarded at the ceremony.
Alhaji Moshud Mohammed, from the Northern Region, was adjudged the overall National Best Farmer 2021.
