Coastal zone coordinator for the Bawumia 2024 campaign and MP for Awutu-Senya East constituency, Mavis Hawa Koomson, has maintained that rent in Canada is more expensive than it is in Ghana due to global economic downturns.

In her first radio interview after her new appointment on Onua FM’s Yɛn Sɛm Pa program, the minister for fisheries and aquaculture development admonished Ghanaians to be grateful to government for the economic success chalked so far.

She talked about her recent trip to Canada, pointing out that it was far more expensive than Ghana to rent even a single room there costing more than 2,000 Canadian dollars a month.

People have been complaining that rent is expensive in Ghana. They should go to Canada. For a month, you pay over 2,000 Canadian dollars. That’s for a single room, not even a chamber and hall.

Things are hard now, and there is a high cost of living everywhere, and when you compare Ghana to other countries, Ghana is doing far better,” she told the host Nana Yaa Brefo in Twi.

In response to complaints that living circumstances in Canada were better than in Ghana, Hawa Koomson refuted the claim that living expenses in Canada are way higher.

She maintained that Ghana is still reasonably priced in spite of the world’s economic difficulties. This, according to her, is due to the sound economic policies and efforts of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government.
