Kan Dapaah is the Minister of National Security

Minister of National Security Albert Kan Dapaah has told Parliament that despite the threats of insecurity, Ghana is relatively safe and stable.

He said in Parliament on Monday April 4 that a number of measures have been instituted by the security agencies to protect the country from both internal and external threats.

Answering a question asked by Kwadaso Member of Parliament, Dr Kingsley Nyarko on the state of the security situation in the country, he said “At the beginning of 2022, we were all optimistic that we will be able to salvage the global economy from the ring of covid pandemic…[but] the Russia-Ukraine conflict further plunged the global economy into abyss of economic catastrophe.

“The situation has been worsened by coups in [some West African countries] including Mali, Burkina Faso.”

In Ghana, he said, there are a few areas of security concerns.

“I want to state that Ghana is relatively stable despite a number of threats, both external and internal, that can undermine security and stability.

“These threats have been prominent by crime, land an chieftaincy disputes, piracy and activity of secessionists,” he said, adding that a number of measures have been introduced to deal with these threats.

These measures include enhancement of highway patrols and night patrols, introduction of horse patrol operations.
