The Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) has described as “baseless” and “unfounded” allegations by National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Ketu South Constituency Dzifa Abla Gomashie that the voter registration exercise in one of the towns in the constituency, Viepe, has been discontinued.

“For the record, the voter registration exercise in Viepe is taking place at the R/C Primary School whereas the National Identification Authority (NIA) mop-up exercise is taking place at the Roman Catholic Church, which is more than one hundred metres away,” the EC asserted.

This response follows allegations by the former Deputy Tourism Minister in a video that has since gone viral that there is a grand scheme to reduce votes in Ketu South.

According to her, the NIA has set up at the same centre as the voter registration, causing the latter to be cancelled.

“The Commission finds the statement by the aspiring Member of Parliament unfortunate,” the EC responded in a press release on Wednesday.

“Not only is her statement untrue but it also has the tendency of causing unnecessary tensions and disaffection for the Commission and its staff.”

It urged all to disregard the statement by the parliamentary aspirant “as the allegations are baseless and unfounded”.
