Decision on Akufo-Addo’s MMDCE nominees in Gt. Accra begins

The Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) has scheduled an itinerary for voting on nominations for the chief executive positions of the various metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (MMDAs) released on Sunday, September 19 by the Minister of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, Dan Botwe.

As per the schedule, the Ayawaso Central Municipal Assembly will kick-start the voting on Monday, September 27 with Alhaji Mohammed Quaye, who was nominated by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Two other municipal assemblies – Korle Klottey and Ablekuma West – will also vote on their nominees on Monday.

Voting on the Tema mayor nominee will be conducted on Thursday, September 30 while exactly a week later, the exercise will be conducted on the Accra mayor nominee, Elizabeth Sackey, who will be the first female mayor for the country’s capital city if approved.

Meanwhile, some of the nominees have been approved already while others have been rejected.

On Friday, September 24, Bismark Baisie Nkum became the first nominee to be approved. He was renominated by President Akufo-Addo and he secured more than two-thirds of the votes to be Chief Executive for Gomoa West District.

Conversely, in Yendi, Alhaji Ahmed Yussuf Abubakar could not secure beyond two-thirds, thereby forcing a second round of elections to be conducted by the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) within 10 days.
