Connect FM frustrating us, W/R scammers complain

A caller has testified on how constant education on Connect FM saved her from falling prey to a scammer who claims President Nana Akufo-Addo is about distributing GH¢2,000 free of charge to Ghanaians due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and as such persuaded her to transfer GH¢500 to him to guarantee her a share of the money. The caller, with name withheld, phoned host of Omanba Pa Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson to narrate how the scammer, who was determined to dupe her at all cost, failed in the long run. She explained that she received this strange call at midnight from a man who told her that President Akufo-Addo was about to distribute GH¢2,000 each to every citizen to cushion them in this Covid-19 era. According to her, the man then asked that she sends him mobile money of GH¢500 as a token to ensure that her name will definitely be added to the beneficiaries. The caller said she declined and told him about the constant education done on Connect FM against such deals so she was not interested. The caller said another call from the same person came through to her after two hours of their chat but she stood firm and resisted the scammer. She said she later told the scammer she will offer him an option of deducting GH¢500 from the said GH¢2,000 if he so wishes. This, according to her, angered the scammer, who rained insults on her. He also verbally attacked Connect FM for “the kind of education they have been giving the general public that almost everyone they contact decline and renders their activities unproductive”. Host Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson during the ‘As-It-Is’ segment on the Omanba Pa show on Monday, August 3, 2020 played the phone conversation on air and reemphasized that scammers are still using the names of renowned individuals to dupe others.
