Six-floor building at Ashaley Botwe to be bulldozed for no permit

City authorities have ordered work on an ongoing six-storey building project in Ashaley Botwe, a suburb of Accra in the Adentan Municipality, to be stopped following the failure of the developers to obtain a permit before commencing the project.

Residents of the area said the building poses a danger to them if immediate steps are not taken to tackle the issue.

The Director for Inspectorate at the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Richard Amo Yartey, told TV3’s Komla Adom in an interview on Monday, November 16 that his checks revealed that the developer had no permit to put up such a structure in that location,

“We received a report that there is a structure in the community. From the report, they considered it hazardous so as the agency responsible.

“We needed to move in to first of all validate and then to also seek which agencies we need to engage to ensure that the proper thing is done for the safety of everybody,” he said.

He added: “The boss of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said they have not issued a permit. We understand that the Assembly has also not issued a permit.

“In fact, there is not even an application for a permit.”
