Akoma FM, one of the fastest growing radio stations in Ghana, has celebrated its 2nd year anniversary in glamour and style.
The Kumasi-based radio station went live on-air exactly August 10, 2019.
Skeptical as many were, it was almost impossible for a new radio station to penetrate the Kumasi market. However, with hard work, zeal, and God’s blessings, Akoma FM has climbed the audience share market and it’s now the fastest-growing radio station in Kumasi.
In just 2 years since Akoma FM, a subsidiary of Media General, was birthed, it has become a force to reckon with with compelling content, news analysis, well-researched credible news and community-driven content and approach.
During the second year anniversary celebration, series of lined-up activities such as outdoor programmes, rewards to listeners, loyal clients, and advertisers were all part of the potpourri.
From the station’s flagship show GhanAkoma (morning show) to midday news, Akoma Mu Nsem (another flagship show) through to Kwantempom Drive (Drive time show) and the 6:00pm news, programmes were all broadcast from outside the studios with a live band as a side attraction to keep listeners and viewers in the grove mood.
As if that was not all, infamous Dr. UN presented the midday news, and it was fun and interesting at the same time.

The topsy-turvy idea also saw singer Gyakie of ‘My Mind Dey for You’ fame and Kweku Flick host the Kwantempon Drive, yea, listeners, and fans were thrilled and entertained.
Feedback from listeners was nothing but testimonies and showers of blessings as some recounted how Akoma FM, through its community-driven segment on the morning show dubbed ‘Me Mpotemu’, reported a death trap road in his community and had results afterward.
“Of course, this is how it’s supposed to be, radio must yield results that impact listeners lives aside from the core mandate of entertaining, educating and informing,” Akoma FM’s Programmes Manager Aduanaba Kofi Asante Ennin said during the opening of the second anniversary ceremony.
He added: “I’m still yet to come to terms with the fact that we are just 2 years old in the market but our strides are remarkable than others who took over several years ago.”
During the apex segment of the celebration, when the cake was cut to officially mark the anniversary, Station Manager Patrick Edmund Asamoah noted that “we are just 2 years but we have already taken over Kumasi. Akoma FM with our loyal clients and audience backing us will next year by this time will be a full force in the audience share market; with God on our side, good plan and teamwork.”
The 2nd anniversary is a month-long celebration with variety of activities.

Listeners, and followers should stay glued to the 87.9MHz dial as outstanding prizes in monetary terms and other souvenirs will come their way.
