Tutors of the Koforidua Technical University in the Eastern Region abandoned lectures Thursday morning to push for their promotions which they claim have delayed for two years.
The lecturers say the University Council has not shown any seriousness in ensuring that their members and staff who have since 2016 been due for promotion are promoted.
“We are not convinced that council is treating the promotion issues with all the seriousness it deserves,” they said in a petition presented to the Council Thursday morning after a peaceful protest in the school.
According to them, the apathetic attitude of the Council towards their promotion has caused some lecturers to join other universities.
The Promotion and Appointment Committee of the University, they said, was supposed to have met on 28th February 2018, to consider the pile of promotion documents of our members which have been pending since 2016 but that did not come off.
“No communication, oral or written, was provided to us,” the lecturers claim in a document jointly signed by their chairman and secretary.
“The failure of Council to meet on the 23rd March 2018, compounded the issue and further caused undue delay in our promotions,” they added.
The lecturers have thus asked the Council put in place measures to address the promotion issues.
Stop the interference
Again, they want the University Council chairman, Samuel Obeng Apori, to be called to order as he has been unduly been interfering in the day to day running of the University.
“We write with regret that this interference has not ceased even though the Council cautioned the Council Chairman to desist from interfering in the direct administration of the University.
