EC to make presentation at voters’ register forum today

The Electoral Commission of Ghana will have the chance to make a presentation at the stakeholders’ forum on the voters’ register today, Friday, October 30.

On its second and last day, the forum has seen major stakeholders like civil society organizations (CSOs) and political parties present arguments concerning the way forward on the current register.

Ghana’s two major political parties – the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) – were on the floor on the first day, Thursday, to make their presentations.

While NPP was led by its former chairman, Peter Mac Manu, in its presentation, which called for a replacement of the register, the incumbent party was led by its General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, who accused the NPP of being on a wild goose chase and that the register should be maintained.

Other political parties such as the Convention People’s Party (CPP), People’s National Convention (PNC) and the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) made their presentations on Day One.

CSOs like Ghana Institute of Public Policy Options (GIPPO), Center for Democratic Development (CDD), IMANI-Ghana and Institute of Democratic Governance (IDEG) also made presentations.

The EC, a major stakeholder in the debate, will have ten minutes more than the times – 20 minutes – allocated for each presentation.

“And then you will have your day,” a member of the committee tasked by the EC to moderate the forum, VCRAC Crabbe, told the audience at the end of Day One’s session.

The forum is taking place at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.
