E-ticket buses to ply Accra soon

Government will soon release about 200 low-floor buses to ply the capital city of Accra as part of efforts to ease public transportation constraints, the president has said.

The buses are meant purposely for intracity operations, John Dramani Mahama said, and delivery has been taken of the first batch.

President Mahama was speaking at a rally on Monday, November 16 when he made this known.

“In every city that I have travelled to abroad, there is private transport provided by taxi drivers [and] mini-buses but there is also public transport,” he said, lamenting how state-owned transport companies like OSA have collapsed.

The buses cannot be used on highways and were brought in for the bus rapid transportation system.

They will operate on e-tickets, President Mahama explained, adding that the introduction of the buses is part of the ‘Changing Lives, Transforming Ghana’ campaign of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.
