2016 Parliamentary Candidate of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency William Kofi Doworkpor has stepped down for Brigitte Dzogbenuku to be acclaimed as the 2020 flagbearer of the party.
Mr Doworkpor, a management consultant and former Communications Director of PPP, had filed to contest the presidential primary against the party’s 2016 Vice Presidential Candidate.
But he stepped down at the last minute.
In her acceptance speech, Ms Dzogbenuku singled out Mr Doworkpor for mention as she expressed gratitude to the party for reposing confidence in her.
“I am particularly grateful to Mr William Doworkpor who so graciously stepped down for me to take up the position, without contest and in the best interest of the party.
“I do not take it for granted; I recognise the enormity of the task ahead us, and with God’s help, I am ready to take the bull by the horns and forge boldly ahead.”
She assured Ghanaians that her leadership will restore hope and trust.
She said both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) have failed Ghanaians as they are two sides of the same coin.
“We have been promised ‘a better Ghana’ and ‘real change’ over the years, but all we have seen is two sides of the same coin, a continuous widening gap between the rich and poor, and our human capital development index is just a notch above the average on our region.”
She said hardwork, integrity, honesty, discipline, loyalty, pride, dignity and respect will characterise her new kind of leadership.
She called for support from Ghanaians to restore continuity and inclusiveness for the country to have value again.
