Don’t compel us to close down markets – STMA Mayor warns traders

May 7, 2020

The Mayor of Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA), Anthony K.K Sam has cautioned traders to observe social distancing in order not to compel the assembly to close down markets there.

According to the mayor, the assembly is bent on ensuring total compliance to laid down protocols in the fight against Covid 19 pandemic, and anybody especially traders who flout these laws may compel the assembly to put in place measures which may include closing down markets.

The mayor was speaking during the distribution of some items to traders at the various markets within the Sekondi Takoradi metropolis.

The items include 5000 face masks, 10 pieces of megaphones, and 10 pieces of thermometer gun.

The Sekondi Takoradi metropolis tops the chart in terms of recorded cases of Covid-19 in the Western region, requiring immediate intervention to ensure total compliance to lay down protocols.

The Mayor led the team to distribute the face masks to the traders which will also augment their quest to ensure the mandatory wearing of face masks by the general public.

“One thing we should all observe is social distancing because we may be compelled to close down markets if you don’t observe social distancing,” he stressed

The mayor again warned that the assembly will reintroduce the arrest of children who will be found hawking on the streets and in the markets.

Meanwhile, a joint taskforce on the Covid-19 Response Team has been at the central business district and other areas to enforce compliance to the mandatory wearing of face mask.
