Ditch calls that echo, they may be bugged – Cyber security expert advises

The maiden edition of TechFest assembled IT gurus who spoke on Cyber Security

A cyber security solutions manager at Vodafone Ghana, Victor Gordon Nyamadi, has advised that phone lines that give echo during calls risk being bugged, and must be ditched as soon as possible.

The cyber security professional, who was speaking on Cyber Security at the maiden edition of the Media General TechFest, was drawing the attention of audience on some of the looming dangers in the cyber space.

“When you receive a call, usually we say echo, and you can hear your own voice, I encourage you to run away from that line,” he advised.

TV3’s executive theater was filled to capacity

He explained that such signals could be what he called “the-man-in-the-middle attack” or “it could be that the line has been intercepted by someone else”.

Mr. Nyamadi also advised that all mails be deactivated if not in use, noting that attackers in recent times use it to takeover the WhatsApp of unsuspecting victims.

“One of the things the attackers are using these days is to exploit your WhatsApp. For instance, if your WhatsApp is set up with a default password, they’re capable of retrieving it,” he noted.

The forum was preceded by a tech exhibition well-patronized by tech startups which exhibited their products and services.

Visible in the stands were Maariba and Jamoro.
