District Assembly elections underway across the country

Voting is underway to elect Assemblymen and Unit Committee members across the country with many expressing fears of a low turnout.

In all a total of 18,885 candidates are contesting in the District Assembly Elections and 43,585 vying for the Unit Committee elections.

Checks by tv3network.com at some polling stations indicated that although EC officials and all requisite materials needed for a successful election was ready, turnout was very low.

Speaking with officials of the EC at the various polling stations visited, they expressed optimism that “it might pick up as the day goes by.” The Ghana Police Service has deployed some 40,000 officers across the country to provide security.

Voting is expected to close at 5pm local time.
