Director of Legal Education Kwasi Prempeh-Eck has expressed disagreement at the proposal by two Members of Parliament (MPs) to exclude the Chief Justice and others from the General Legal Council.

He said he cannot agree with the proposal by the MPs – Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor of South Dayi and Francis Xavier Sosu of Madina – for a reconstitution of the GLC by a Legal Instrument (L.I) by excluding the Chief Justice and the two Justices of the Supreme Court.

Mr Prempeh-Eck said the two justices are not only in charge of the judiciary but have played instrumental roles in legal education in the country.

He wondered who will fill the vacancy to be created by their exclusion if they are removed from the Council.

Mr Prempeh-Eck pointed out that the constitution of the Council has been in existence since its inception in the 1960s aimed at running legal education in the country.

Citing Section 13 of the Legal Profession Act to buttress the legitimacy of the Council, he disagreed with the MPs in an interview with TV3 on Tuesday, November 2.

“I will not agree to that,” he stressed.

“That is their proposal but the two justices are not only in charge of the judiciary but have played a vital role in legal education. So to just exclude them and then who replaces the two justices?” he quizzed.
