The Minister for Inner City and Zongo Development, Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, has dismissed allegations made by the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the elections are being rigged in favour of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He said the NDC are aware that they are losing the elections, hence all attempts to poison the atmosphere with lies and fabrications.
His comments come on the heels of claims by the Director of Elections of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, that some persons believed to be members of the NPP are stuffing ballot boxes to enable Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo win the polls.
Mr Afriyie Ankrah alleged at a press conference in Accra on Monday, December 7 that the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, is leading the rigging efforts.
“We wish to call on our supporters and patriotic Ghanaians who have voted not to sit home especially in the Ashanti Region.
“Go back to the polling stations to observe the process. Don’t stay home. It is your presence and vigilance that has brought us this far, so everybody go back to the polling stations, observe the process, be vigilant and ensure that the right thing is done,” he said.
But also speaking at a press conference, Mustapha Abdul-Hamid said: “The NDC and their presidential candidate know that they have lost the elections and so the only way they can manage this is to poison the atmosphere.
“If you claim that you are winning an election, how do you discredit the elections you claim you are winning? Voting is still ongoing and so how do you know that ballot boxes are being stuffed.
“They are seeking to save face following the defeat that is staring at them. You are drowned and nobody is going to rescue you.”
