National Youth Organizer for the National Democratic Congress(NDC) George Opare Addo, has stated that the embattled Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator DCOP Ayensu Opare Addo deserves the treatment meted out to him in his removal from his post.
According to the National Youth Organizer of the biggest opposition party in the country, even though he is related to the DCOP Opare Addo, he does not share in his misfortune because he was a beneficiary of the same tactics and manner employed in ousting his predecessor from the post.
He said this in an interview with Johnnie Hughes on the New Day show on TV3, Wednesday, May 19.
Mr Opare Addo was speaking on the back of the National Security Coordinator Major General Francis Adu Amanfo(retd) saying the tenure for DCOP Opare Addo as the Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator has expired and thus refusing to vacate his post for his successor to assume office. He also pointed out that DCOP Opare Addo has refused to heed to calls from his superiors to appear at the National Headquarters to debrief his successor accordingly and the NPP’s declaration that his forceful removal from his post had the backing of the state.
He said “our elders have a simple saying, sometimes you are better off keeping quiet about some issues. I don’t want to sound insulting but I’m so disappointed in the National Security Coordinator, a General of the Ghana Armed Forces the response he gave, if there is a problem between your office and an officer who works under you and you cannot instruct the officer to come to Accra, then you have no business and locus sitting in the office you occupy, because you have no authority there.
“So it’s an indictment on his office, and the only way you can bring the officer to Accra, a former Regional Commander, a whole DCOP, the second highest rank in the police, the only way you can get him to Accra is to send thugs to go and forcefully remove him from his office, then what business does he have at the National Security office”.
Mr Opare Addo went on to say that “but you see, in the last five years, we have seen how this government has used its thugs to operate. I am uncomfortable talking about this issue because my surname is Opare Addo and I’m related to DCOP Opare Addo, so I feel uncomfortable speaking about it but I strongly believe he deserves what he got, ask me why? Because as Regional Security Coordinator, he took over office after his predecessor was removed in a similar manner. When Mr. Adjei was removed, these same thugs who came to remove him because in one of his interviews I heard, he said he knew some of these boys who are members of the Ashanti Regional vagabond group called the Delta Forces, he knows them personally. What it simply means is that, as Security Coordinator or as the liaison officer for the National Security, he was in touch with these guys, he worked with them, used them and now they turn their guns against him.
“I don’t know what, as a country, we are doing but we are mocking ourselves. And in all this, I blame the chairman of the National Security Council, that is His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo because he is a beneficiary of this lawlessness. And I will tell you why, in 2012-2013 he started preaching about losing confidence in the state securities, and we were in this country when the then chairman of the NPP Paul Afoko told us that they have brought in mercenaries to train these vagabonds that have today metamorphosed into various terror groups that have unleashed terror unto this country”.
