Lawyer Ekow Ebow Donkor, the legal representative of Connect FM’s morning show host Emmanuel Paa Kwesi Simpson, insists his client is innocent of the charges levelled against him by the police.
The Omanbapa host has been granted bail by a Takoradi High Court days after he was remanded into police custody by a Circuit Court on Thursday, November 4.
He is facing charges of publication of false news with the intent of causing fear and alarm to the public contrary to the Public Order Act, and false publication of news through an electronic device contrary to the Electronic Communications Act, 775 of 2008.
After the decision by the High Court on Monday, November 8, lawyer Donkor said they are ready for hearing on the substantive case, which resumes on Tuesday, November 16.
“Thankfully, the Court has exercised its discretion of favour and granted him bail [on Monday],” he told journalists.
“So what it means is that we will go back to the court to continue the substantive matter which is at the Circuit Court and has been schedule to come off on the 16th of November.
“We will be waiting for the police to come out with what they have in their sleeves. We are also ready for them. We believe in the innocence of the second accused person and so we are ready for them.”
