Confusion as 2 Covid-19 patients are returned to police custody

April 13, 2020

Two Niger nationals who were last week intercepted at a covid-19 safety check point at COCOBOD head office in Accra and tested positive for covid-19 have been returned to police custody under bizarre circumstances hours after they were transferred to the Ga East Hospital for treatment.

It is immediately unclear why  persons who tested positive for Covid-19 would be taken back to police custody which is neither an isolation centre nor a treatment centre.

The development, 3news.com has learnt has further aggravated anxiety among the rank and file of personnel at the Accra Central police station as well as those in close working relationship with them.

It is recalled that 3news.com reported of anxiety at a police station following positive tests of two Nigeriens who were in police custody.

They were later transferred to the treatment centre while the police station was fumigated, but that did not allay the fears of workers there.

Per the modalities, a person who tests positive must have his movement records assessed and the contacts tracked and medically examined.

But it’s unclear when the surveillance team will return to conduct this vital exercise to put the hearts of the personnel at ease and also avert any further complications.

While that is still unsettled, the patients were Monday night returned to police custody, further aggravating the fears of the officers.
