Colleges of Education strike: Steps will be taken to resolve the issues – NLC assures

Ofosu Asamoah is the Executive Secretary of NLC

The Executive Secretary of the National Labour Commission (NLC), Mr Ofosu Asamoah, has assured that practical steps will be taken to resolve the issues that resulted in the strike by members of the Colleges of Education Non-Teaching Staff Association of Ghana.

Members of the association started their indefinite strike on Monday, April 11 following the failure of authorities to act on their demand for better conditions of service.

“It will be recalled that a notice to embark on strike was served in January 2022, but could not be carried through due to the intervention of the National Labour Commission (NLC).

“It is unfortunate that since January 2022, no commitment has been demonstrated to find a solution to the issues raised except for the partial payment of office holding allowances.

“The date given by the NLC for the government team to address the concerns raised had elapsed, but no tangible solution had been professed,” they said in a statement.

But speaking on the Sunrise show on 3FM Wednesday April 13, Mr Ofosu Asamoah said ” Expect that we will take practical steps to ensure that the issue will be resolved.”

“We knew about the the strike but we don’t have the power to give them what they are due,” he added.
