Choose not to listen or respond to us; day of reckoning will come –Mahama to Nana Addo

November 17, 2018
Mahama addressing the National Delegates Congress

Former President John Dramani Mahama lashed out at his successor, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, for stating he does not respond to the criticisms of flagbearer aspirants of the National Democratic Congress.

Nana Akufo-Addo last weekend claimed the flagbearer hopefuls of the NDC have in a bid to prop up their campaign “desperately trying to get me to respond to them” in their criticisms of the government.

But the President unequivocally said “Let me state here and now, for the records that President Akufo-Addo will not respond to presidential aspirants.”

However, Mahama on Saturday suggested the President’s decision cannot be justified because the issues they have been raising are the concerns of the people of Ghana.

“Recently in a barb aimed at my fellow aspirants and I, the president is quoted as saying he does not respond to presidential aspirants. What I wish to remind Mr. President is that as presidential aspirants, are also citizens not spectators,” he said at the ongoing NDC national delegates congress in Accra.

He said while the President can choose not to listen to the concerns of the citizenry, he should know that the day of reckoning will come at which time the people will demand a response and judge the output of his government.

He said: “We are only amplifying the voices of our fellow citizens. Mr. President can choose not to listen or respond to us but eventually the citizens of Ghana will demand that response and exact a verdict on the issues that we have kept raising.
