Charlotte Osei sues lawyer for anonymous EC staff

Charlotte Osei is embroiled in corruption allegations[/caption] Embattled chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Mrs Charlotte Osei, has sued lawyer for the anonymous staff of the Commission who are seeking her removal from office for alleged corruption and breaches of law. The staff claimed Mrs Osei without recourse to laid down administrative structures and the Public Procurement Act, singularly abrogated contracts, secured a V8 Land Cruiser for her use, and awarded contracts worth thousands of dollars. The staff who remained anonymous claimed among others that the EC chair has since taking the EC office, demonstrated ineptitude in the manner she managerially and administratively run the Electoral Commission. READ: Charlotte Osei faces removal as EC Chair  But Mrs Osei who felt slighted by the allegations demanded of lawyer Maxwel Opoku-Agyemang, the names of the EC workers who petitioned President Akufo-Addo to trigger impeachment proceedings against her. She claimed the anonymous staff have defamed her per the petition copies of which went viral, claiming the anonymous “concerned staff” have damaged her hard won reputation. In a letter to Mr Opouku-Agyemang, Mrs Osei requested for the names of the staff to enable her sue them for defamation and warned she would sue the lawyer should he fail to provide their names. However, Mr Opoku Agyemang called the bluff of the EC chair, indicating he was ready to face her in court over the matter. Consequent to last week’s threat, Mrs Osei on Tuesday filed a writ at the High Court in Accra against Mr Opoku Agyemang. Details of the writ, especially the reliefs being sought from the court, have not yet been disclosed.
