Ampem Darkoa Ladies succeeded in defending the Ghana Women’s Premier League after beating archrivals Hasaacas Ladies in the grand finale on penalty shootouts on Friday evening at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex

The Techiman-based side defeated Hasaacas Ladies 5-3 on penalties to win the Women’s Premier League title for the second successive time.

After a blank first half, Hasaacas Ladies took control of the game by launching effective attacks on their opponents until they finally broke the deadlock through Doris Boaduwaa. The forward latched onto a great delivery from a corner kick on the hour mark to give her team the lead.

However, Hasaacas gave away the lead with seven minutes to end the game as captain Linda Eshun failed to clear her lines. Ophelia Serwaa Amponsah got the most out of the situation and fired past Grace Banwa the goalkeeper to ensure that the game travelled to extra time.

Fatigue was evident in the extra time action as the game failed to record more goals thereby leading to a penalty shootout where Serwaa Amponsah proved her heroics after Success Ameyaa missed the Hasaacas Ladies’ third kick.

Ampem Darkoa will represent Ghana in the WAFU Zone B tournament to compete for a place in the CAF Women’s Champions League. They missed out on CAF Champions League last season.
