The Executive Secretary of the Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana, Sampson Aasaki Awingobit, has expressed interest in contesting for the flagbearership slot of the People’s National Convention (PNC).
“I am a young man of 40, I like to serve and [I’m] very passionate about my country”, he said on 3FM morning show, Sunrise on Tuesday.
He claimed his declaration to contest the PNC primary has given hope to members of the Nkrumaist party who have over the years cared less about the party which critics say is dying.
According to him, his decision is already “causing fear” within the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party.
“Sampson AsakiAwingobet, [is] declaring my intention to contest in the upcoming elections already causing fears into the minds of the NDC and NPP”, he said.
MrAwingobit described himself as a grassroots person who knows what the ordinary Ghanaian and the business community want.
Commenting on the poor performance of the PNC in past elections, the businessman said he would use his influence and “brand” to get people to cast their vote for him and the PNC should win the ticket of the party to contest the December 7, 2020 general elections.
He believes those who have been following NPP and NDC for a long time without getting “anything” will follow him.
MrAwingobit disagrees with the assertion that he is only chasing a dream of “impossibility”, indicating that he is getting into the polls to win.
