The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) has apologised for Friday night’s power outage across most parts of the country.
The outage affected a large majority of the 16 regions of the country.
The power-producing company described the situation as a “system disturbance”.
A statement issued by the Corporate Communications Section of the Company said restoration commenced immediately “and three-quarters of customers received supply as of 21:00GMT”.
“Power restoration efforts continue as generation is restored,” it added.
Later speaking on TV3‘s Ghana Tonight, GRIDCo’s Communications Manager Dzifa Gbeho Bampoh conceded that the “system disturbance” was widespread, hitting the Ashanti, Western, Greater Accra and Northern regions.
“It is quite widespread,” she stressed.
“The last time we had this significant spread was in January,” she said, pointing out it took some 4 hours for power to be restore.
