Gas supply from WAPCO to thermal plants restored – GRIDCo-ECG

The Ghana Grid Company Ltd (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have announced that Gas supply from the West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCO) to thermal power plants in Tema has resumed.

This is contained in a jointly signed press release dated December 13.

“All power plants which shutdown have been restored into operation. Power supply to all affected customers have also been restored,” a part of the press release stated.

The two entities assured consumers of sustained supply of power.

“With the return to normalcy, GRIDCo and ECG wish to assure that we will continue our collaborative efforts to ensure continued reliable supply,” they pledged.

It would be recalled that WAPCO announced the shutdown of its Tema Regulatory & Metering Station on December 12 due to some operational upsets.

WAPCO had stated that the cleaning and inspection of the 56km x 30” onshore pipeline section between Itoki and Badagry, part of the West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP) in Nigeria, is progressing steadily.

During the cleaning exercise, it said, a larger-than-expected volume of liquids and debris was received at the Lagos Beach Compressor Station.
