Bunkpurugu clashes: Authorities there are disappointment – Amasa Namoale

The Member of Parliament for Dadekotopon constituency, Nii Amasa Namoale has expressed utmost disappointment in the way and manner those in authorities have handled the Bunkpurugu violence, which renewal has led to loss of lives and burning of houses.

There were sporadic shootings Friday afternoon in the area between the Jamong and Jafok families. Dupak Lapak, a farmer, and Bawa Chanleep, a tailor, are said to have been killed in the renewed clashes.

Confirming the incident to host of Onua Fm’s flagship program Ghana Dadwen, Bright Kwesi Asempa, Bunkpurungu District Police Commander, Supt. Steven Delaport mentioned that the Jamongs have taken refuge at a police station. This, he said, angered the Jafoks who threatened to face off with the police.

About 35 houses have been burnt down. The police have also retrieved two AK 47 rifles.

Sharing his thought on Onua FM about development there, Nii Amasa Namoale charged the Police Commander and the opinion leaders at Bunkpurugu to thoroughly investigate the root cause of the violence and deal with the perpetrators not caring whose ox is being gored.

“I am disappointed in them, the authorities. What is the Police doing? They know those who are behind this violence, why can’t they arrest them?…Even if it is the son of the president who is involved, he must be punished”.
