Buhari, Ouattara et al congratulate Akufo-Addo

December 11, 2020

Following his re-election as President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has received congratulatory messages from across the world.

His counterparts on the African continent have not been left out.

Most of them took to Twitter to congratulate him for successfully winning a second term.

President of Ghana’s western neighbours Ivory Coast Alassane Ouattara was among the first to congratulate “my brother Akufo-Addo on his re-election as President of the Republic of Ghana”.

Ghana’s major West African neighbours Nigeria also had their leader Muhammadu Buhari pledge to continue the close historical and cultural ties with Ghana, and for that matter Mr Akufo-Addo.

I congratulate President Akufo-Addo on his re-election for a second term in office. I also commend the people of Ghana on the successful conclusion of the presidential and parliamentary elections – further proof that constitutional democracy has come to stay in West Africa.

The Gambia’s Adama Barrow also added to the list of West African leaders.

On behalf of the people of the Republic of The #Gambia and on my own behalf I congratulate the people of the Republic #Ghana for re-electing my brother and #NPP candidate @NAkufoAddo for a second term. I wish him success in his tenure as #President of the Republic of Ghana.

Some opposition leaders in some countries also sent in their congratulatory messages, probably taking a cue from the travails of Mr Akufo-Addo as a long-time opposition leader before annexing the presidency in 2016.

President @NAkufoAddo congratulations for the honor and trust the people of Ghana have bestowed on you by electing you for a second term in office. We celebrate your country and your people for continuing the tradition of peaceful and democratic elections.

— Raila Odinga (@RailaOdinga) December 10, 2020

Aside Kenya’s opposition leader Raila, Zimbabwe’s Nelson Chamisa also congratulated Mr Akufo-Addo.

Congratulations President @NAkufoAddo.Thank you Ghana for setting the example and leading the way. Peace is simple. Democracy is viable. Transparency matters. God bless Ghana. God bless Africa! https://t.co/Wlosg9qkNh
