Bryan Acheampong Foundation offers postgraduate scholarship to 70 teachers

August 6, 2019

Seventy teachers within the Kwahu East municipality of the Eastern Region have received full scholarship from the Bryan Acheampong Foundation (BAF) to undertake postgraduate courses at the Presbyterian University College.

The beneficiaries of the 429,000-cedi scholarship package have taught for at least 10 years.

A cheque for 208,250 cedis has been presented to authorities of the University to cover part of the scholarship by the non-governmental organisation founded by the Member of Parliament for Kwahu East, Bryan Acheampong.

Presenting the cheque, Mr Acheampong said additional 30 teachers in the area will be shortlisted to pursue undergraduate courses at the Presbyterian University College.

He expressed delight that his organisation, BAF, was sponsoring teachers in the area to undertake post graduate studies with the aim of making education better for the people in the municipality.

Mr Acheamping urged the beneficiaries to be good ambassadors of the Bryan Acheampong Foundation so that the scholarship scheme would be extended to the advantage of many other teachers.

Mr Acheampong [L] presenting the cheque to Rev. Prof Addo Obeng
“BAF as a foundation has a 20-year plan to turn the whole of the Kwahu area into a college town, where the society is infused with learned people who act as change agents in turning around the fortunes of the community.”

The MP observed that catering for the welfare of teachers, students and the provision of more educational facilities are the three basic factors which have helped developed countries to successfully turn communities into college towns.

To this end, Mr Acheampong called on other citizens with the financial wherewithal, to sponsor at least a student or more as has been done by BAF.

Mr Acheampong mentioned maternal health, student mentee, thrift shops for the aged, Youth-in-apprenticeship and Livelihood empowerment as some of the areas the Foundation has been focusing on.

He expressed optimism that BAF will touch more lives this year, with the allocation of about 1.5 million-cedi funds for its various social interventions programmes.

President of the Presbyterian University College, Rev. Prof Addo Obeng, thanked the Bryan Acheampong Foundation for its worthy cause and charged the beneficiaries to submit themselves for the programme.

He underscored the need for the beneficiaries to stay within the community upon the completion of the course, to give back to the people in the area.
