No serious damage was caused by the accident, which happened at about 7:30am Monday. The cause of the derailment is not immediately known but railway officials say someone might have tampered with the tracks.
TV3’s Josephine Frempong who is at the scene reports that the two people, a man and a woman, who sustained injuries were sitting in the second coach [ just after the head of the train]. She said there were about 20 people in the train when the accident occured.
“The train has been grounded and engineers are trying to decouple the head of the train from the coaches so that they can lift the head to check exactly what happened,” Josephine reports.
She told TV3 Online that commuters are now struggling to find other means of transport to their various destinations.
