Former President John Dramani Mahama has taken a swipe at the NPP government’s Economic Management team, stating that managing the economy goes beyond ‘the mere presence of big names”.
John Mahama noted that management team of the government is not an antidote to the hardships Ghanaians are going through.
Speaking to some NDC delegates at the Wa Campus of the University of Development Studies (UDS), the former president said questioned what the current Economic Management team has done to salvage the difficult economic situations Ghanaians are faced with.
“Big names don’t manage economies; you don’t need big names to manage economies. Yes, nobody knew the names of NDC Economic Management team but we managed the economy and managed it well,” the former President said.
He said on a comparative basis, the relatively less known members of his government’s
Economic Management team performed very well to solve the economic challenges that faced the country while in government.
Mr Mahama noted that the NPP government after claiming to have all the big names in its team, is still struggling with the management of the economy, as Ghanaians are complaining of hardships, with many businesses also collapsing.
He told delegates that the NPP after lying to win political power in 2016 are not able to fulfill their promises to Ghanaians.
The former president cited promises such as the One-District-One-Factory, One-Village-One-Dam, and jobs for the unemployed, amongst other promises that are left unfulfilled by the NPP government.
He accused the NPP government of lying to Ghanaians knowing full well that it would not be able to fulfill their promises.
“Now I look back, I do not feel as sad that we lost the election because it gives Ghanaians an opportunity to be able to make a comparison between us and our opponents, and it teaches us a lesson in the politics of Ghana that you can lie your way into power but you cannot use lies to manage an govern and manage the country, because for us, we have always told the truth, we have not lied to the people of Ghana.”
