Avail yourselves for AFCON qualifiers- Agyemang-Badu tells foreign-born players

Former Black Stars midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has urged foreign-born players who want to play for Ghana to get involved in the AFCON 2023 qualifiers and not only the 2022 World Cup.

In recent months, a number of foreign-born Ghanaians have been rumoured to be willing to switch nationality and play for the Black Stars following qualification to Qatar.

Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah, Athletic Club forward Inaki Williams and Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi have reportedly been in talks with the GFA over a possible switch.

“We should not rush and call players just because of the World Cup and lose them after,” the former Udinese midfielder stated on Max 89.7 FM.

“Those who wouldn’t have any problem switching nationality must be ready for the 2023 AFCON qualifiers so they get familiar with the terrain. It shouldn’t be that the player plays the World Cup and that’s it,” he added.

The 31-year-old made his first international appearance in June 2008 and played his last game in 2017. He made 78 appearances for the Black Stars, scoring 11 goals.
