Less than a week after Akoma FM reported gross neglect of the Atta Mills Presidential Library, there has been intervention by the Member of Parliament for the area.
Cape Coast South MP Kweku Ricketts-Hagan has taken up to change the fate of the Atta Mills Presidential Library as he assured he will present the Presidential Library Bill on the floor of Parliament for immediate intervention to save the facility from rot.
This intervention comes after Akoma FM aired detailed documentary on the abandoned presidential library as the host chronicled the current state of the library, serving as burrow for rodents, birds and other unwanted visitors.
On Akoma FM‘s weekly segment dubbed ‘Mr President’, aired on Wednesdays on GhanAkoma, host Aduanaba Kofi Asante Ennin put the spotlight on the presidential library and gave vivid accounts on how fast the facility is deteriorating as the metal fabrications rust and roofs peel off.
In less than a week after the report, subsequently on 3news.com, nerves were touched and the MP for the area has promised to ensure a long-lasting solution to breathe air into the dying Attah Mills Presidential Library.
On Easter Monday, Kweku Rickets-Hagan, together with a section of the locals, trooped to the facility, swept the compound and cleared bushes in a bid to make way for the rehabilitation of the library after he tables the Bill on the floor of Parliament for necessary action.
During the communal labour at the abandoned Presidential library, Mr Ricketts-Hagan told the media that “I will ensure that this huge edifice does not rot away so we are launching ‘Save Atta Mills Library Now’ because we believe the situation is getting out of hands”.
“So, let’s activate the radical approach to secure the legacy of former President Atta Mills.”
He also assured that “as soon as Parliament resumes session, I will trigger the bill on the library to attract the necessary attention for swift intervention.”
