Assist me to make Ghana a better place – Akufo-Addo

December 5, 2018

The President, Nana Addo-Dankwah Akufo-Addo has asked Ghanaians to assist him to realize his dream of making Ghana a prosperous country.

“Help me so that my vision comes to pass. We want to change Ghana because what is going on is not good, and it is my duty to bring change and development to this nation,” he said.

The President was speaking on Tuesday at Bankuman, Tema Newtown as part of his tour of the Greater Accra Region where he cut sod for the construction of local roads.

Addressing a large crowd that had gathered at the durbar grounds to welcome him, President Akufo-Addo said  the first two years of his governance were used to lay a foundation for the development that was about to follow, adding that “before the four years end, I would come back to you to give account of what I used my stewardship for.”

He promised that the subsequent years would be used to consolidate the progress achieved in the first two years of his presidency.

The Paramount Chief of Tema, Nii Adjei Kraku II, in a speech read on his behalf, appealed to the President to help create another access route to ease the huge traffic commuters usually encounter whilst moving in and out of the town.

The Minister of Roads and Highways, Mr. Kwesi Amoako-Attah, responding to the appeal of the Tema Traditional Council, observed that government had already cut sod for the construction of an alternative route to Tema Newtown to ease off traffic.

He appealed to the people of Newtown to help government by observing good health practices and prevent the choking of gutters which came with a lot of health challenges.

He assured that by the end of 2019, the Paradise Beach Road would have commenced.

The Member of Parliament for Tema East, Mr Daniel Titus-Glover, was grateful for what the President had done for the people of Tema Newtown, noting that “for over 52 years Bankuman has never seen a tarred road.”

Mr. Titus-Glover, who is also the Deputy Minister for Transport, informed that under the leadership of the President, all Tema roads would receive an asphalt overlay which would greatly enhance transport in the Metropolis.

He was also happy to announce that a parcel of land had been earmarked for the construction of a modern hospital to ease congestion at the Tema General Hospital.

He praised the President for his free SHS policy saying that “parents in Tema Newtown are grateful to you for taking this huge burden off their shoulders in assisting them train their children.”

Earlier, President Akufo-Addo inspected work on the Tema Motorway Interchange project and the Steel Works Tema Oil Refinery Junction Concrete Road Project.

He expressed satisfaction at the pace of the construction, and hoped that the engineers would take a clue from earlier construction works done in the country in order to avoid earlier mistakes.
