Ashanti NDC offers free health screening to residents in Asawase constituency

Ashanti regional executives of National Democratic Congress have embarked on a medical outreach to bring health care services to the doorstep of residents in the Asawase constituency.

The free health screenings included a comprehensive check-up followed by dental and eye exams, performed by nurses and medical specialists.

Patients were able to consult the doctors present on site and collect drugs.

Patrons were also offered education on healthy lifestyle to avoid non-communicable diseases.

“We’ve realised a lot of people are coming with high blood pressure and high sugar level but without regular check-up. Our intervention has been timely and we’ve educated them on the need to keep a healthy body” Dr Fred Bedzrah indicated.

Ashanti regional chairman of NDC, Augustus Nana Akwasi said the intervention is to make health care accessible to residents.

“I’ve been receiving calls from party people to assist them with medical care. We all know the system is hard now so as a leader, I engaged some health officials to help us bring health care closer to the doorstep of residents by way of free medical outreach. We are not just screening patrons but giving them drugs as well”.

Some beneficiaries commended organizers of the program.

“We thank the regional executives and the Asawase MP for organizing this exercise. The current economic situation of the country makes it difficult for most of us to access healthcare. So bringing this to our doorstep makes it easy for us. I was given medicines after the doctor attended to me”, a beneficiary, Mughis Mahdi noted.

“We have been well catered for by the medical officers. Each and everyone of us was given a drug to treat himself/herself. We hope this kind gesture would be extended to others”, another beneficiary, Mma Hawawu stated.
