The Member of Parliament for Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa Constituency in the Central Region, Alhaji Alhassan Kobina Ghansah, has appealed to government to equip the Central Regional Fire Command logistics that are needed in fire fighting.
In a speech read on the floor of Parliament on behalf of the constituents, the AOB MP indicated that the only fire tender which serves the entire constituency has been taken away by the Covid-19 management team and effort made for its return has proven futile.
Alhaji Kobina Ghansah reiterated the need for the government to procure tenders for the Region with an appeal to the Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery, who is also MP for Nandom.
“As the Fire Service has been advising that fire is a good servant but bad master, a family of five, husband, wife and three children’s properties were destroyed including personal belongings and an undisclosed amount of money when their room caught fire at Brakwa in the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District. Even though the personnel were able to control the fire from spreading, it took them about three hours to clamp down the fire,” the MP narrated.
It is of this that he has appealed for the return of the only tender for the District.
The Constituency, according to the law maker, is one of the largest in Ghana.
Apart from its district capital Breman Asikuma, it has adjoining communities like Breman Bedum, Breman Brakwa, Ayipe, Odoben, Kontanase among others which are far from each other.
“We are praying to God to avert any fire outbreak. It would have been a disaster.”
He therefore called for swift intervention to return the tender sent to Covid-19 treatment center.
