A second unnamed suspect in the gruesome acid attack on the late Upper East Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party, NPP, has been arrested.
It is not clear what role the suspect may have played in the acid attack and subsequent death of Adams Mahama, as police are withholding details of his identity.
But the police in the Upper East Region have confirmed the arrest of the suspect in connection with the alleged ‘murder’.
Already, the police are holding Gregory Afoko, the main suspect who coincidentally is the younger brother of the NPP’s National Chairman, Paul Afoko.
Gregory Afoko has already made his first appearance in court on the charges of conspiracy to murder and murder.
Upper East Public Relations Officer for the police, PRO Thomas Agbanyo will not name the latest suspect except to say that he is believed to have “aided” another suspect, Asabke Alangbi to escape.
Alangbi, who is on the police wanted list for his role in the attack, is said to have fled the Upper East Region with his wife leaving behind their baby.
Police found a gallon containing acid , believed to be a surplus of what was used to bathe the late NPP Regional Chairman.
According to autopsy report, Adams Mahama died of extensive acid burns and shock lungs (acute respiratory distress syndrome).
He died on Thursday May 21, a day after he was bathed with acid, and has since been buried in line with Islamic tradition.
