King Faisal owner Alhaji Grusah stated that he was not surprised by the result of Kumasi Derby against Kotoko because he confidently predicted that his team would win.
On Sunday, Grusah’s boys shocked Kotoko 3-2 at the Baba Yara Stadium – and are now first on the Ghana Premier League table after six games.
Forward Zubairu Ibrahim stole the show as he netted a hat-trick to condemn Kotoko to their first defeat of the campaign.
Speaking after the game, Grusah said he beat Kotoko with inexperienced players.
“We have a player that can run with any player in this country and that is Zubairu. I told TV3 we will still beat Kotoko even without Osman Ibrahim and Emmanuel Sarkodie,” Grusah said.
“The referee awarded them a dubious penalty initially but we don’t mind. We have beaten them, we scored three and they scored two. We won’t buy players from outside, we used colts and second division players to beat them.”
Kotoko came into the encounter unbeaten in five matches and conceded just one goal but before the 20th minute, they trailed 2-0.
Ibrahim scored his first five minutes into the game and added the second in the 18th minute.
Kotoko thought they would end the first half with a goal because they were awarded a controversial penalty by referee Juliana Nunoo. But fourth referee Daniel Laria intervened and Nunoo reversed his decision.
Two minutes after the halftime break, Kotoko pulled a goal back thanks to their Cameroonian forward Mfegue Omgba.
As Kotoko pushed for the equaliser, Ibrahim completed his hat-trick in the 68th minute but Omgba scored again four minutes later.
Kotoko threw more men forward to try and salvage a point but King Faisal were resolute and claimed their first league win over the Reds in seven years.
King Faisal are level on points with Kotoko but due to better head-to-head, the Isha Alla Boys are new league leaders.
And Grusah believes they can win the league for the first time this season.
“We will win the Premier League and as I said last season that we will avoid relegation, we are winning the title this season,” he added.
King Faisal’s next match is at home against Elmina Sharks.
