Al Ahly beat Zamalek to win  9th CAF Champions League trophy with Mosimane

South African gaffer, Pitso Mosimane has won Al Ahly their first CAF Champions League in 9 years after beating arch rivals Zamalek at the Cairo International Stadium in Cairo, Egypt on Friday, November 27.

Pitso Mosimane becomes the third manager to win the continent’s biggest club competition with two different teams since1965 and all was against Zamalek – one with Mamelodi Sundowns and the latest with Al Ahly.

Al Ahly came into the game stronger and as the favorite to win the finals in an empty Cairo International Stadium.

The current Egyptian Premier League Champions opened the scoring as early as the 6th minutes through Amr El Solaya’s header. The Midfielder connected to a corner kick in the early stages of the game to put Al Ahly ahead.

Zamalek pressed after conceding first and had the equalizer Shikalaba’s. He curled home from close range after beating the Al Ahly defence with his left foot in the 31st minutes.

Mohamed Magdi Afsha restored Al Ahly’s lead with a long range shot with 4 minutes to end proceedings.

All Zamalek’s efforts proved futile after Al Ahly got the lead.

The Red Devils have won two trophies this season – the domestic league and now the CAF Champions League.
