Akufo-Addo’s ultimatum mounts extra pressure on us – NPRA boss

Chief Executive Officer of the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA) Hayford Attah Krufi has stated that the ultimatum given by President Nana Akufo-Addo for all pension-related issues to be dealt with within the next three months mounts a lot of pressure on the Authority. Mr Attah Krufi, who was speaking on 3FM’s Sunrise morning show hosted by Winston Amoah, however, noted that the president’s ultimatum was “generous” considering the Authority was already having deliberations and needed to bring a conclusion to it soon. “As you know, pension is a very emotive issue. For every contribution made, there is a human life attached to it, and therefore if pension issue is very protracted, it affects people’s lives; it affects people’s future. “We need to work even faster than the three months. That is why I said he is being generous,” he stated said. President Akufo-Addo, in a speech delivered on May Day, issued an ultimatum to the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) and NPRA to resolve all labour related issues within three months. Mr. Krufi expressed concern over workers receiving meagre monthly pension payments after their tireless service to the nation. It is a situation, he believes, is unfair to the working public. He, however, announced that the board and management of the SSNIT had come out with a system in place “where nobody, irrespective of your contribution should receive below the national minimum wage”. “There is some kind of equity principle attached to it to make sure people do not fall below the minimum wage of income,” he said.
