Ghana’s opposition leader Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has congratulated the newly elected flagbearer of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Ivor Kobina Greenstreet.
Greenstreet, a private legal practitioner, beat competition from three others to emerge winner of his party’s presidential primary held at a delegates’ congress on Saturday, January 30.
In a statement issued on Sunday, January 31, Nana Addo expressed the hope that Mr Greenstreet and, indeed, the CPP “will contribute to the shaping of the political discourse, from one of personality attacks to a competition of programmes, policies and ideas”.
He premised this on what he says is the eagerness of Ghanaians for an issues-based campaign from all political parties and their 2016 candidates.
“This will help to reinforce the peace and stability of our nation.”
Nana Addo also congratulated losers Samia Yaba Nkrumah, Bright Akwetey and Joseph Agyapong “for their pledge of support for Mr. Greenstreet”.
He wished Mr Greenstreet – who made history by becoming the first physically challenged flagbearer of a political party in Ghana – well.
