The Agric Chamber of Commerce is warning of imminent food shortage in the country if immediate steps are not taken to provide farmers with improved seeds.
According to the chamber, about 88 per cent of farmers do not have access to these seed, hence are unable to expand their farms and also improve on their yields.
Mr. Philip Abayori believes government should prioritize the supply of improved seeds and quality fertilizers can complete the work of these farmers.
“…Seed are also important; almost 88 per cent of farmers are not using good seeds and that is also a deficiency that should be checked”.
He thus underscored the need for farmers to be supported and educated on how to help grow the sector.
“The seed sector is weak and needs to be propped up. We do not have the seeds and if it is addressed, and the farmers educated, then it can prevent the seeming food insecurity that is looming,” he stated.
