Ghana’s Power Distribution Services (PDS) says the several hours of power outages experienced in Accra on Sunday was as a result of a natural occurrence.
The national capital, Accra, was yesterday plunged into total darkness for several hours from the evening through to Monday dawn.
In its usual and regular brief statement to explain the current power challenges in parts of the country, PDS said distribution was affected by Sunday’s thunderstorm.
“The PDS wishes to inform its cherished customers and the general public that the heavy rainstorm that hit Accra and its environs during the evening of Sunday 7th April, 2019, has caused outages in our distribution system,” the utility provider said.
The statement assured that its engineers were “working assiduously” to rectify faults and restore power supply, which was indeed restored around 2:30am Monday.
“The inconvenience caused due to this natural occurrence is very much regretted,” the power distribution company sympathized with customers.
Power Distribution Services with Manila Electric Company (Meralco) as the majority shareholder took over from the Electricity Company of Ghana in February 2019 under the Compact 2 of the Millennium Challenge Account to transform the fortunes of the power distributor to enhance adequate and reliable power in the country.
