Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo celebrates newly-appointed Catholic Cardinal

The Member of Parliament for Wa Central Constituency Dr Hassan Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo has joined the masses in celebrating the newly appointed Catholic Bishop with a hearty message to the Nandom born priest.

Bishop Kuuia Baawobr was among 21 new cardinals named by Pope Francis for the Roman Catholic Church.

He becomes the third Ghanaian bishop after Cardinal Peter Appiah Turkson and the late Cardinal Peter Porekuu Dery to be made a Cardinal.

He was ordained as Bishop of the Wa Diocese in 2016.

The lawmaker took to his viral tweeter feed to eulogize the historic ascension of Richard Kuuia Baawobr to the status of a Catholic Cardinal in the country.

Born in 1959 in Tom Zendagang, a suburb of Ko in the Nandom Municipality in Upper West region, attended Nandom Senior Secondary after spells with St Francis Xavier Minor Seminary in Wa.

His quest for ministering the word God saw him joining Society of Missionaries of Africa in 1981 and has since evolved into one of the most honored and celebrated bishops in the country.

The 63 year old appointment came after having served as the Bishio for the Wa since 2016.

Celebrating the meteoric rise and historic feat chalked his compatriot, Hon Dr. Hassan Rashid Pelpuo heaped kind words on the newly appointed Cardinal.

“From Wa Central to the Most Rev Bishop of Wa, Richard Kuuia Baawobr of the Catholic Churhc. Congratulations on your appointment to the high office of the Cardinal. Wa is very proud of you and we are honored for this unique exultation. May God be your guide and protector”, Dr Hassan Rashid Pelpuo tweeted.

The Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia also sent his congratulatory message to Bishop Richard Kuuia Baawobr on his elevation to Cardinal by the Pope.

The Vice President took to his official Facebook page a few moments after the “good news”, stating: “This is good news for Ghana and worth celebrating.”
