2019 VGMAs Unsung winner Kula advises Shatta, Stonebwoy

The winner of the Unsung Category at the just-ended Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs), Kula, says the feud between dancehall artistes Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy – and, by extension between their fan bases – takes away the fun in the music industry. He made this observation in an interview on TV3‘s New Day following a scuffle between the two artistes at the 20th edition held on Saturday, May 18 into Sunday, May 19, 2019. Kula was of the view that though the culture of dancehall and rap music has some violent traits, he would never engage in any act of violence. He said an artiste is expected to churn out music to entertain fans and not engage in violent acts that distort public peace. “I am not a violent person, so I would not encourage my fans to fight. It takes the fun out.” Speaking about his award and the way forward, the rapper hinted that he was targeting the ‘New Artiste of the Year’ award at the next VGMAs in 2020, and that he would work towards achieving that. “By next year, I will have 3 or more hit songs in the system and I will be in the category of New Artiste of the Year,” he said. “With the attention this VGMAs Unsung has brought me, the future looks bright. It is up to me to maximize the attention I am getting right now to make very good use of it. With the plans that I have in motion, the future looks very bright,” he further explained.
