2017 GMB launches at Bukom Boxing Arena today

Ten beautiful queens will begin a quest for a coveted crown and an accolade of ‘Ghana’s Most Beautiful’ lady as the 11th edition of GMB is launched in Accra on Sunday.

After a rigorous pre-show selection, which began in the Northern Region capital of Tamale in July, the show is set to unveil this year’s finalists at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra.

The ten will aim to be the first to win the crown, which is up for grabs for the first time after winner of the 10th edition – Yaba – won hers for keeps.

Aside the crown, a sleek four-wheel drive will also be up for grabs.

With the stakes high this year – given the theme Straight Outta Ghana – the finalists will have their work cut out for them as they seek to impress fans and viewers in the next couple of weeks for the crown.

The 10 lucky finalists were selected on Friday, August 4 from a shortlist of 23, a process the judges admitted was “more difficult than expected”.

As it launches in Accra, the ladies will be led by 23-year-old Greater Accra Region representative Henrietta Naa Ayeley Mensah.

Western Region, the region of last year’s winner, will be represented by Dorcas Asante Afful, 25.

Tsekumah Christine Edem, 24, will represent the Volta Region.

Ashanti Region will be represented by Helena-Annabella Asare-Bediako, whose ambition in life is to inspire people to believe in themselves.

Twenty-six-year-old Shaguffa Pelpuo Adams will represent the Upper West Region with her younger colleague, Helen Talata Akongzirigo Azitariga Atinganma, 23, representing the Upper East Region.

Zeinab Abdul Mumin will represent the Northern Region.

Central Region will have Baaba Botchway as the region’s representative.

Juliet Mensah and Ivy Nhanna Serwaa Sefa-Boateng will represent the Brong Ahafo and Eastern regions respectively.

All of them have been given sendoffs by their respective regions and, so, are ready for the show to begin.

Sunday’s launch, as usual, will see the showcase of tradition as chiefs and queenmothers are expected to grace the venue.

Organisers say all is set for a great launch at the Arena.
